Facing a short Village Inn squad, the Admirals took an early lead and cruised to victory in game 1 of this Wednesday night doubleheader.
With Logan Kentner making his CSP debut and some random dude in jeans and sneakers who looked like he could smash a ball as Village Inn pick-ups, the Admirals took the field as home team for the final time of the regular season.
After a lead off Villager Josh single, the Admirals doubled him off to reset the table. A Villager JJ double followed, but the Admirals escaped the inning off a fly ball to left that followed.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Admirals countered with 3 runs capped by a Poutine ground-out that followed a 2-run customary Duran inside-the-park home run and a "real" solo customary Beasty Beatty .
In the 2nd, the Village People got on the board scratching in two runs, but the Admirals responded with the 7 max runs per inning capped by a 2-run customary Beasty Beatty .
Another 2 more Village Inn runs in the 3rd, and the Admirals were sat down in order, with Poutine again recording the final out of the inning.
In the 4th, the Admirals D came up clutch recording 3 outs on 4 batters faced. In their bottom half, the Admirals again put the 7 max runs per inning to open up a 17-4 lead.
More of the same Admirals D in the 5th as they again held the Villager bats in check keeping them from scoring on 4 batters faced. In response, after a surprising Poutine lead-off single, the Admirals were able to plate another 2 to pad their lead to a comfortable 15 runs.
Never ones to give up, and perhaps inspired after watching their random pick-up in jeans and sneakers hit a solo to right, the Village People scratched in 5 runs to cut their deficit to 10.
Looking to put this one away, BJ lead off the bottom of 6 with a to left that hit the top of the fence and bounced back in the left-fielders glove. Amidst the confusion on the play (was it an HR or not?), BJ was incorrectly called out at 2nd when he got there safely after the 2nd baseman dropped the throw in.
Upon disputing the call, the umpire stuck to his guns and adamantly demanded the game resume. Don't know who pissed in this umpire's Corn Flakes that morning, but it was clear he wasn't going to change his call. But I digress...
After the Morgan single, another Poutine out, and Jeff single that followed, up to bat next was Dunner, who made a spectacle in calling time so that he could put on this button:
With everyone in the Admirals' dugout seemingly confused by the move, Dunner hit a shot to the right-center gap that resulted with him standing on 3rd. After Village Inn chirps of running up the score, Dunner's teammates only echoed those "dick" statements after he was stranded at 3 on the FK (cha-ching) that followed.
In the final 7th and open inning, the Admirals D were able to shut down the Village People after allowing a single run to score to secure the dub.
With the win, the Admirals have officially clinched the #1 seed in the Men's B Division playoffs.
