assignment Admirals Lean on D to Defeat Dbacks

The Admirals leaned on their D until their sticks arrived to keep their current unbeaten streak alive in this Monday night doubleheader vs. their favourite opponent.

With both the Admirals and the Diamondbacks having publicly advertised this much anticipated circled date, there was surprisingly no pre-game trash talk even though the teams were parked so close to each other for pre-game hydration. It was clear both teams were focused on the task at hand.

The game started with the visiting Dbacks jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead with single, single, double. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and the ever-dangerous-clean-up-hitter James up to bat, the Admirals dodged a severe bullet logging a 6-5-2 double play thanks to the COVID imposed "force" rules. Undeterred, the Dbacks followed with a Don single, Steve-O triple and Jamie single that resulted in 3 more runs before the Admirals could record the final out of the inning.

In response, looked like the Admirals left their sticks with the pre-game fluids as they were sat down in order after a Duran lead-off double.

In the top of the 2nd, the Admirals escaped a one out bases loaded situation with an IEDP to keep the score 4-0 Dbacks.

Looking to carry that defensive momentum to their sticks, the Admirals instead continued the embarrassingly sluggish momentum they ended the 1st inning with, going 3-up 3-down. On the bright side, the Admirals Team Fund heard its first cha-chings since their opening night, logging 2 FKs over the 2 offensively challenged innings.

After a Dbacks lead off single and double in the 3rd, the Admirals recorded their 3rd double play of the game off a fly ball to right center and an early leaving base runner who was tagging from 3rd.

Feeling fortunate for still being in the game, the Admirals sticks FINALLY showed up in the bottom half of the inning, plating the max 7 runs per inning that was capped by a 3-run definitive Duran that landed over the hill behind the left-center field fence.

In the 4th, the stifling Admirals D continued, recording 3 outs on 4 batters faced and the Admirals sticked in 6 more runs highlighted by a beasty Beatty 3-run .

Disappointed that Ryan didn't hit the promised inside-the-park HR that would follow Duran's next "real" HR, Duran cheekily reminded everyone: "beasty Beatty" is not quite "definitive Duran" when measured in distance.

After sitting the Dbacks in order in 5th, the Admirals scratched in another 5 to increase their lead to 13.

The Dbacks got one back in the 6th, and recorded their own IEDP (cha-ching) to prevent further scoring from the 3 Admirals' batters faced.

In the final 7th and open inning, after allowing 2 runs to cross the plate, the Admirals were able to record the final out to secure the win.

Boxscore:
