assignment Admirals Sweep Doubleheader vs. I'd Hit That
Wednesday 8:30PM August 19th, 2020The Admirals remain undefeated after beating I'd Hit That in game 2 to sweep their Admiral birthday Wednesday night doubleheader.
Much like the previous game, I'd Hit That jumped out to an early lead, scratching in 3 runs in the top of the 1st.
In response, having already plated those 3 runs back, up to bat was BJ with bases loaded and "7 at the plate!!" being announced to their opponent.
Embarrassingly forgotten in the celebration of Mitch's 40th birthday was the fact that it was also BJ McInnes bobblehead night at the park.
Never one to steal anybody's thunder, BJ humbly kept quiet about it.
Looking back now, BJ probably tried to jog his teammates memories of this momentous night by hitting his first career Admirals in game 1, but the team's thoughts were clearly still blurred by the wonderful birthday cupcakes Mitch brought before the games.
Well after BJ parked another over the left field fence to clear the sacks and cap the max 7 runs per inning, Dunner yelled out: "Wow man, you'd swear it was BJ bobblehead night at the park!"
On his way to retrieve his ball, BJ yelled back: "It is actually! 'Bout time you remembered!"
Unphased, after scratching in a run, I'd Hit That's Johnny Ralston launched another to dead center that cashed 3. After the double and walk that followed, the Admirals were able to escape the inning without further damage with the score tied at 7s.
In their home half, surely embarrassed for forgetting about BJ bobblehead night, but obviously inspired by his grand slam in the previous inning, an Admirals hit parade ensued, which capped by a BJ single, saw the Admirals put up the max 7 runs per inning without recording an out.
The 3rd inning saw the teams swap a run to keep the Admirals lead at 7.
After plating 5 in the 4th, I'd Hit That held the Admirals sticks to a donut to cut their deficit to 2.
In the 5th, I'd Hit That scored another 4, thanks to an Austin 3-run absolute-no-doubt-moon-shot that still hasn't landed.
In the bottom half, capped by a Jeff would-be-triple-turned-double 😜, the Admirals countered by scoring 5 of their own to win the inning and increase their slim lead to 3.
The 6th saw the Admirals infield flash some leather, turning some nice plays that recorded 3 outs on 4 batters faced.
The Admirals sticks could only scratch in 2 more runs in the home half, which saw them take a 5 run lead into the final 7th, and open inning.
Thankfully on this night, 5 runs was a good enough cushion, as the guys in black and blue recorded the final out after allowing only one more run to cross the plate.
