assignment Admirals Escape Early Slugfest
Monday 7:00PM July 27th, 2020The Admirals escaped an early slugfest with a W in their 2020 season opener against I'd Hit That on this hot muggy Monday evening.
As the visiting team, the Admirals' sticks were hot out the gates, sending 9 batters to the plate to jump to an early 6-0 lead.
In response, their opponent showed why they're called I'd Hit That, batting through their 11-man lineup to plate the new 7 max runs per inning, highlighted by 3 (!) home runs.
Undeterred, the guys in black and blue countered by posting the new 7 max runs per inning on 8 straight batters, capped by a 2-run Beasty Beatty .
In reality, it was 7 straight batters not counting the out the team had to take for an MIA Mitch who missed his at bat to get something from his car. On the bright side, with team fines resurrected this year, there was a man on 3rd with no outs.

In the home half of the 2nd, I'd Hit That kept hitting that, again posting the new 7 max runs per inning to retake a slim 1 run lead.
Coming off the field after this 2 inning slugfest, Graham proclaimed loudly: "First team to stop hitting loses!" And the jinx was on, as the Admirals were only able muster 2 runs in the 3rd.
However, thanks to nicely turned double play, the Admirals were able to escape the bottom half of the inning unscathed to take a lead for the first time in the game at the end of an inning.
After holding the Admirals scoreless in the 4th, I'd Hit That scratched another run to knot this game at 15 apiece.
Another hit parade ensued in the 5th as the Admirals scored 6 to I'd Hit That's 4 and held a nervously slim 2 run lead.
In the umpire announced final 6th and open inning, there was lots of dugout chatter about insurance runs. And again, the jinx was on, as the Admirals first 2 batters were sat down faster than you can say: "Where's Mitch?!?".
Looking for redemption, up stepped Mitch, who knocked a deep opposite field shot over the right fielder that saw him standing at 3. A Derek single drove him in, who was then driven in by another Beasty Beatty , his 2nd of the game. Those 3 runs were the only insurance the Admirals could muster.
Thankfully however, it was a enough. After allowing 2 runs, the Admirals were able to escape with the win recording the final out of the game on a 3-1 play that saw the ump change his call (to out) with the way a laid out Mike was tip toeing around trying to find the first base bag.
