The Admirals couldn't keep up with the Combines sticks as they dropped game 2 of their Wednesday evening doubleheader 22-13.
Coming in warmed up after beating Vickery Electric, the Admirals thought they might catch the Combines in a prime upset spot seeing a) they had the #1 seed locked up (seemingly in mid-July) and b) the league leaders strolled in just minutes before game time.
That thought only got better after the Admirals jumped to an early 7-0 lead after the top half of the 1st.
In the home half, that thought quickly vanished. Possibly doing BP in the parking lot, the Combines showed why they have been dominating the league this year as they responded with 7 runs of their own.
After blanking the Admirals in the top of the 2nd, the Combines put up another converted touchdown (7, for anyone not familiar with football scoring).
In the 3rd, the Admirals scored a singleton, but the Combines again put up a touchdown, but this time failed the extra point attempt (6, for anyone not familiar with football scoring).
Now down 20-8 and in need of a serious rally, the Admirals started the 4th with 3 straight singles. Looked like they'd get another after Aaron hit a hard grounder past the 1st basemen, but the Combines' deep playing speedy 2nd basemen made a great play corralling it to make the 4-3 out.
No worry, with runners now at 2nd and 3rd, Ryan cashed them all in with a Beasty Beatty , arguably his longest bomb yet. Unfortunately, that's all the Admirals could muster that inning, but it cut their deficit to a more manageable 8.
In the bottom half, a small victory was felt as the Admirals were able to get out of the inning by only allowing 2 runs.
In the umpire called last inning (5th), the Admirals needed to plate double digits in hopes of extending the game, but unfortunately, they sad-tromboned their way to just 1.
With the regular season in the books, the Admirals appear to be headed into the playoffs as the 6 seed.
