assignment Admirals Faceplant to Victory
Tuesday 7:45PM May 29th, 2018In game 1 of this Tuesday night double header, the Admirals hosted Pearl Jam in front of a pile of fans brought by rookie Admiral Joe.
After allowing the first four Pearl Jam batters to reach base on four straight singles that saw two runs cross the plate, the Admirals managed to escape the inning without further damage.
Unlike last week's sluggish starts, the team got on the bats right out of the gates this time, stringing seven straight hits that eventually resulted in a 10-run-league-inning-max to make the score 10-2 after 1 inning of play.
After plating another 2 runs in the top of the 2nd, Pearl Jam sat down the first two Admirals' hitters for 2 quick outs. An Admirals two-out rally looked to be in the makings, after solid base hits by Alberto and DC.
They say hind sight is 20-20, and looking back now, what happened next can certainly be seen as a sign of things that were come.
After smoking a ball over the right center fielder, a thud and a cloud of dust ensued after Mitch rounded third that resulted in him laying flat on his belly, smiling but motionless between third base and home:
Winded by the fall, his hilarious attempt to crawl backwards to get back to third fell just short as he was eventually tagged out for the final out of the inning.
In both the 3rd and the 4th, Pearl Jam and the Admirals scored 1 and 3 runs respectively to give the Admirals what they thought was a comfortable 18-6 lead.
Not the 30+ run lead the team feels comfortable bringing Terminator Pouenke in to reliably close out the game, the team called on TP regardless with this perfect 0.00 ERA in tact.
What followed was a pitching performance that had many yearning for the better Labrecque pitcher. Pearl Jam posted the 10-run-league-inning-max, inflated TP's ERA to infinity, and the Admirals were now only up by 2.
The Admirals managed to score 3 insurance runs in their bottom half, and thankfully, TP returned to form to close out the game without any further Pearl Jamage.
Make the final 21-16.
When asked about the faceplant during his post-game presser, Mitch said: "Yeah, I was pretty winded by the fall. Do I get fined for that?!?"
