With the entire Admirals starting infield, except for Doug who wasn't invited for obvious reasons, attending Alberto "The Cuban Sensation" Lopez's annual Infielders Conference, the team was getting ready to take on the Ugly Ducklings on this blustery Monday 7:45PM evening game.
The Admirals skip had this game circled after failing to recruit 2017 Mosquito Select Oshawa Legionaires co-assistant-coach BJ McInnes, who rejoined the Ducks this year.
In the two previous contests against these Ducklings, the team that got to bat last won the game in walk-off fashion.
Keeping consistent with that trend, the Ducks, holding the hammer in this game, again prevailed in walk-off fashion to snap the Admirals season opening win streak for the 2nd consecutive year.
Perhaps looking for the same success rookie Joe had by packing the stands with his fans, Antonio "Fit 4 Life" Silva and Sean "Stop Hitting it to BJ" Dunn filled the stands with their supporters.
Unfortunately, that same success was clearly not to be for them, as the 1st inning started with a rare Antonio FK [ INSERT SOUND OF CASH REGISTER HERE (the first of two sounds for him on the night) ], and ended with one of Sean's three caught shots on the night to Ducks left-center fielder BJ.
With the infield seeing so many second stringers, the team called on the services of super star WMSPL short stop Shawn Jimmo to help, who was (finally) able to make his Admirals debut as a spare.
Arguably, the move proved to be fruitless however as the infield didn't see many balls on this night. With a gusty wind blowing out, the Ducks took turns pounding the ball all over the field highlighted by a deep BJ (ha!) no-doubter to left center. If you're reading this BJ, still think you'd look better in an Admirals uni! :)
Down 13-2 going into the 3rd, the Admirals bats finally got going and posted the 10-run-league-inning-max to get back in the game.
The Ducklings responded with 5 in their bottom half of the inning to build their lead back to 6.
In the 4th, the Admirals got those 6 back and held the Ducks to a tasty donut to make the score 18-18 going into the umpire-called-last-inning.
The Admirals managed to score a lone run, and faced the daunting task of preventing a hot hitting Ducklings team from scoring 2 runs to come away victorious.
A quick out from the bottom of the Ducks order gave the Admirals a glimmer of hope. But on this windy night that made it difficult for pitchers to hit the mat, combined with the ball-pounding-prowess of the Ducklings' top of the order proved to be to much as the Ducks eventually plated the two runs they needed for the walk-off win.
The Admirals, in the middle of a tough 6 game stretch vs. the top teams, are now off until next Wednesday when they face the Combines, followed by a double-header on Thursday vs. The Machine and Diamondbacks.
