The Admirals took on the Village Inn on day two of a three-day-four-game stretch.
Despite an outbreak of angry giant mosquitoes, a good game was being played between these familiar opponents.
The Admirals jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a fortuitous Duran-can-of-corn-turned-inside-the-park-home-run that nearly ended as a double play at home plate with Duran-choo-choo-training closely behind Grambo.
After holding the Village Inn off the board in the home half of 1, the Admirals sticks plated 5 more runs to take an 8-0 lead, highlighted by another Duran-inside-the-park-home-run.
Undeterred, the Village Inners got 2 runs back in bottom of the 2nd, sat down the Admirals in order in the top of the 3rd, then plated another 3 to cut the score to 8-5.
And as the saying goes: "We've got ourselves a ball game!"
The teams swapped a run in the 4th to keep the margin at 3.
In the 5th, the Admirals scored 3 and held the Inners to 2 runs to increase their lead by 1.
In the umpire-called-could-be-last-inning, the Admirals could only muster 2 insurance runs and took the field to protect a 6-run lead.
Some key hits by the Village Inn saw them plate 3 runs to cut their deficit in half, but the Admirals were eventually able to record the 3 outs to come away with the 14-11 win. Seconds after, the lights were accidentally turned off (again) by the kids playing on the NW diamond.
In other news, since learning of the team's ongoing search for a sponsor, Poutine has been lobbying hard for his favourite internet "hub":
