assignment Admirals Get Back in The Win Column

With Alberto running another Infielders Conference that saw the entire starting infield and several backups attending the sold out event this time (including Jay W who was apparently invited last minute due to a late cancellation), the Admirals were left uber-short in desperate need of bodies to field a team for this Tuesday 6:30PM game vs. the A-Team.

Desperate times call for desperate measures!

With all spares unavailable, and unable to pick up strangers off the street because the league prohibits it, the Admirals made the following roster moves to get 10 legal bodies on the field:

1) Coax Admirals legendary 1st baseman Marty "Close Only Counts in Horseshoes, Hand Grenades and Throws to him at First" Robertson out of retirement to become a 2018 spare

2) Coax a gimpy and ride-less Joe to come off the DL prematurely, who agreed under the following conditions:

• Need a ride to game
• Need to stop at Shoppers for tensor bandage for his gimpy leg
• Need to stop at dry cleaners to drop off jock
• Need to stop at pet store to buy food for his 3 dogs
• Need to stop at Walmart to buy Spits at cheapest price
• Need a teammate to massage his leg after game (ain't gonna happen)
• Need a ride home from game

3) Sign Callup #1 (a.k.a. Mike Jackman) from the league's call up list

With so many infielders MIA, Duran was brought in from the outfield to play 2nd base and Antonio and Poutine platooned at short stop and pitch.

With the Admirals unsure how to position the outfield against this new young A-Team squad, 5 runs crossed the plate before they could record the 3rd out of the 1st inning.

In the bottom half, the Admirals sticks, sparked by a Duran inside-the-park-home-run, responded by posting the 10-run-league-inning-max, all with 2 outs.

After allowing their opponent to plate another run in the 2nd, the Admirals were held off the scoreboard that cut their lead to 4.

With the Admirals trying to get cute with their defensive outfield positioning, the A-Team took advantage and scored another 3 runs to cut their deficit to 1 going into the bottom of 3.

A lead off single by Joe followed that saw him limp to 1st in a Terry Fox like fashion. A fly-out, a fielder's choice, 6 consecutive hits, and fly-out later, and the Admirals had plated 6 runs to build a 16-9 lead.

After a defensive adjustment in the outfield, the Admirals were able to hold their opponent to 1 run over the final 3 innings, and scored another 3 to make the final 19-10.

Special thanks to Joe, Marty and Mike (a.k.a. Callup #1) for helping out to make sure we could field 10 players.
