The Admirals took on the Village Inn for the 2nd time this season on this hot and humid Thursday 6:30PM game.
Maybe it was because Jomo, a mainstay in the lineup to this point, was signed out for this game but the Admirals again forgot about their "Start Strong. Finish Strong" catchphrase , as the first 6 (!!) Admirals batters were sat down in order over the first 2 innings.
This seems to be a reoccurring theme actually. Maybe this new catchphrase only applies when Doug, a.k.a. Vegas, is in the Admirals line up? Probably not enough data yet to prove that...
But I digress...back to the game...
In the bottom of the 2nd, in strolled (some would say skipped) Jomo smiling ear-to-ear full of mojo knowing he was still in contention for the coveted Cal Ripken award.
Well it may have been coincidence, but it appeared to be the spark the team needed, as the Admirals finally broke up Village Inn's no-hitter in the 3rd and strung enough hits together to put them up 4-1.
After keeping the Village Inn'ers off the scoreboard again in the 3rd, the teams swapped tasty donuts in the 4th and 5th innings.
In the 6th, Duran, channeling his inner Jomo Mojo, smoked a line shot over the right-center fielder to plate 2 of the 3 runs scored in the inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Admirals D again shut down the Village Inn attack to make the score 7-1 going into the final inning.
With thoughts of a recent collapse still on the minds of many Admirals, the team knew they needed to make Vegas proud by fulfilling the latter part of their new catchphrase: "Finish Strong".
And that they did, plating 6 runs to pad their lead to a more comfortable 12 runs going into the bottom half of the final inning.
At the top of their order, the Village Inn bats broke the streak of zeroes by plating 3 runs to make the final 13-4.
Tim "I'll Run for You...for $5" Gibson who went 3 for 4 on the night with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
Jomo "Fastest. 11th batter. EVER!" Hanley for bringing the mojo and going 2 for 3 on the night, with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Ryan $5 (stranding a runner on 3B with less than 2 outs, although most will agree Poutine should've been on the hook for this one)
The team fund sincerely thanks you for your contribution! :)
