assignment Admirals and Recon Battle to 11-11 Draw
Tuesday 7:45PM July 11th, 2017
We’ve all been there before. The perfect first date!

You’re wearing your finest t-shirt and your cleanest underwear.

You’re choosing to drink “moderately” – sipping Busch Light instead of throwing back shot-after-shot of Jameson.

You’re ON A ROLL.

You start imagining what it’s going to be like the next morning, going to get some egg mcmuffins together, stopping by the pharmacy to get another box of Trojans, watching reruns of the Golden Girls all day in bed with your new gal.

You’re ON A ROLL.

Then suddenly, without warning….the wheels fall off…you Crash and Burn!

Welcome to Admirals baseball in July!

After going 6-0 in May, and 5-1 in June, the Admirals have stumbled to a 1-2-1 record in July.

In the first game of their double header on Wednesday, July 13, the Admirals battled Recon to an 11-11 tie.

The Admirals opened the game plating four of their first five batters, quickly building a 4-0 lead. Another 4 runs for the Admirals in the second inning gave them an 8-3 lead after 2 full innings. For those of you that struggle with math – that means the Admirals were on pace to score 24 runs over 6 innings.

Unfortunately, the bats went cold, as the Admirals managed only 3 runs the rest of the game.

Recon chipped away at the Admirals scoring 2 runs in the third to make it an 8-5 game…and then the wheels fell off. Recon batted around in the 4th inning, scoring 6 runs.

The Admirals came to bat in the top of the 7th inning down 11-10. Jay Goodwin, started things off with a single. After a failed bunt attempt, singles by Poutine and Antonio meant the bases were juiced with one out for Jomo.

Rising to the occasion, Jomo crushed the ball to deep left centre field. The Recon outfielder made a tremendous grab – so tremendous that is caused confusion on the base paths. Jay Goodwin came in to score from third, but a base running miscue ended up leading to the third out. The Admirals had tied the game, but definitely wanted more.

Mike “Sometimes I pitch Awesome, Sometimes I pitch Terrible” Labrecque pitched Awesome in the bottom of the 7th and stranded Recon’s winning run at second base.

All in all, a climactic, but not orgasmic finish.

Statistical Shout-Out:

Antonio "Fit 4 Life" Silva went 3-4 from the lead-off spot. With two singles and a double.

Dave "I Can Dunk on 9' Rims" Carter went 2-3 with a triple, a double and a fly-out to left field that would have been declared a “double home run” in Whitby.

Graham "Wouldn't Miss An Admirals Game for Anything" Duncan went 2-2 with a double, a single, a sac-fly and 3 RBI (all on an injured knee. Some say his knee was injured playing Co-Ed, others think it happen at The Downer)

Team Fines
Antonio: $5 (stranding a runner at 3B with less than 2 outs)

The team fund sincerely thanks you for your contributions!

Boxscore:

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Final
Admirals 4 4 0 2 0 1 X 11
Recon 2 1 2 6 0 0 X 11
